LoRaWAN ® Remote Multicast Setup Specification TS005-2.0.0 ©2022 LoRa Alliance ® Page 5 of 21 The authors reserve the right to change specifications without notice. 2 Introduction 136 137 This document defines the Remote Multicast Setup package, an application layer messaging 138 package running over a LoRaWAN link, that can perform the following operations on a fleet 139 of end-devices: 140 • Program a multicast distribution window into a group of end-devices 141 • Have all end-devices of the group enable Class B or Class C temporarily at the 142 beginning of the slot 143 • Close the distribution window and revert to normal operation (e.g., return to Class A 144 or change to a different periodicity in Class B) 145 The Remote Multicast Setup package can be used to: 146 • Remotely create a multicast group security context inside a group of end-devices 147 • Report the list of multicast context existing in the end-device 148 • Remotely delete a multicast security context 149 • Program a Class C multicast session 150 • Program a Class B multicast session 151 This package uses a dedicated port to separate its traffic from the rest of the application 152 traffic. Packages are discoverable using LoRaWAN Multi-Package Access Protocol 153 Specification [TS007]. 154 All messages described in this document are transported as application layer messages. As 155 such, all unicast messages (uplink or downlink) are encrypted by the LoRaWAN MAC layer 156 using the end-device's AppSKey. Downlink multicast messages are encrypted using a 157 multicast group McAppSKey common to all end-devices of the group. The setup of the 158 group, as well as means to convey the McAppSKey, are described in this document. 159
