Electronic registration of labour documentation On 1 October 2021, Law No. 21,327 came into force making the electronic registration of labour documentation mandatory for employers. Chilean legislation requires all employers governed by the Labour Code with five or more employees to keep a remunerations book, which will in future be in the form of an "Electronic Remunerations Book" with documentation uploaded virtually on the website of the Labour Department. The employer must register payments made to employees, of remunerations, allowances, other benefits and indemnities, within the first 15 days of the month following the respective payment. The remunerations paid in the period between January and September 2021, had to be uploaded within the first 15 days of February 2022. Employers are also required to register employment contracts on the website of the Labour Department, within 15 days of their execution as well as the following: • Sanctions against employees within 15 days from their adoption (effective as of 28 November 2022) • Collective bargaining instruments within five days from their execution (effective as of 28 June 2023) • Employee attendance, holidays and leaves of absence (effective as of 28 June 2023). Employers should ensure they comply with the deadlines for uploading relevant information. 2. Proposed law offers protection for platform workers The Chilean Congress will soon approve one of the first laws in the world to regulate platform work, according to Fairwork. One key feature of the new legislation is that it distinguishes between two types of workers: dependent digital platform workers and independent digital platform workers. The distinction depends on
