SOLUTIONS THAT SCALE PARTNERSHIP & DEPLOYMENT Member name: IoT Ventures Ltd Member name: IoT Water, Dairy Farm Water Management Location: New Zealand Geographic size: farms across the South Island of New Zealand Type of devices deployed: Irrigation Control devices Number of devices deployed: >4000 with orders of 7.5k for balance of 2022 Number of gateways deployed: >25 and growing Number of messages: 7.5 million per month and growing ROI data: time saved, water saved, productivity (pasture growth) improved, compliance improved. SOLUTION The IoT Ventures Irrigation Control Solution is designed from end to end to meet the requirements of farmers needing to control large numbers of irrigators. IoT Ventures specializes in the design and build of end to end LoRaWAN ® solutions, with a proven methodology and set of capabilities that reduce solution risk and shorten time to market. For the Irrigation Control Solution, we developed the Irrigation Control System – a web-based system built on our LoRaSysCore that enables users to create and view their properties and irrigation zones, establish and manage sprinklers individually and in groups, and design and apply programmes to sprinklers. The system provides real-time visualization and of irrigation and supports the access and use of historical data. The diagram below shows the Irrigation Control Solution web application summary view of irrigation status: Additional features support device and network maintenance and management at the farmer and reseller levels – disconnection from a solenoid, circuit failure, device off the air and to support device fault diagnosis. The Irrigation Controller device is designed to control a sprinkler remotely by powering a Magnetic Latch Solenoid on and off. Commands are sent using the LoRaWAN® communication protocol. The Controller has these features: • Maintain up to 5 Schedules, which include Start Time, Duration, Day of Week, Moisture Threshold; • Measures ground moisture using a resistive moisture probe; • Detects sprinkler operation using an accelerometer to sense vibration; • Solar powered; The Controller is configurable and reports its operation over the LoRaWAN network. It is otherwise autonomous and will operate independently once set up. VALUE OF COLLABORATION Collaboration is essential with respect to developing and installing scalable solutions. Very few organisations have all of the capabilities necessary to deliver an end to end outcome for customers. For our solutions, we have leveraged the platform capabilities of AWS to develop the LoRaSysCore upon which we build all of our customer or scenario specific systems. MultiTech provides gateways for the Irrigation Control Solution and it has been deployed across TTN-E, ThingPark and Chirpstack network servers.
