ISSUE The main challenge is to be able to provide connectivity to all meters and devices of each town with an inexpensive and flexible network reaching all locations with enough coverage and which cannot compromise the devices' battery life, balancing the best possible quality of signal (no lost messages) with the operative timespan of the devices (duration of the batteries). SOLUTION Cellnex provides a scalable and easy-to-deploy network infrastructure which adapts to the connectivity requirements of the client and the network server backend to manage connections. We grant extensive coverage, quick response times and all-time data availability, plus client support for the duration of the contract (10-12 years). Each contract has a municipality-scale scope, and each case is approached with its own preliminary study and gateway requirements evaluation based on the number of devices to connect, the geographic and urban nature of the environment and the available sites to allocate the network infrastructure. Cellnex is now managing the LoRaWAN networks, granting a cheap price-per- connection and granting an SLA higher than 98%. CELLNEX IS THE TECHNOLOGY PARTNER The network connection is needed for the smart meters to be capable of sending the information remotely. Everything that must be done deriving from this requirement are not the core capabilities of the client. Cellnex positions as the technological connectivity partner for the utility. The customer can benefit from Cellnex network know-how and site footprint and capillarity in order to reach all locations needed. Services provided include network roll out, site allocation and operation and maintenance with high quality service, leveraging our traditional experience with mission critical and private networks. As a result, the customer is focused on managing the Integrated Water Cycle and delivering the best service to their customers, such as cities and municipalities.
