"Each locker room has a dedicated bathroom shower. Most rinks just have a shared bathroom, so I think that's a nice feature." The RP Lumber Center is a 65,000 square foot facility that is fulfilling demand for ice—and so much more. A Community Staple The RP Lumber Center is intentionally located adjacent to the high school. It's not just a hockey rink—it's a full-blown community center. The facility includes a teen center, lovingly called "The Garage." It is funded and operated by the Junior Service Club of Edwardsville and Glen Carbon. The teen center's mission is to support local youth by "provid- ing a safe, supervised, social environment promoting educa- tion, health, wellness and leisure through education space, leisure space and education technology and programming." "The idea is for this to become a staple of the community," Zamora said. "A lot of communities have recreation centers, and this is our first building of that nature." Yes, there will be ice. Yes, there will be locker rooms. But the addition of a fitness center, indoor walking track and teen center make the RP Lumber Center a multifaceted community asset. It serves as a youth hangout and an option for community members to get a workout or a walk in when the weather is cold or rainy. Outdoor patio deck
