WHO AM I: Rod Langway actually started his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens wear- ing a helmet, but stopped wearing one because of an injury. While playing a game for the Canadiens, Langway was hit from behind and needed stitches to close a cut in his eyelid. "We had a game the next night, and I knew if I wore a helmet, it was going to hit the stitches and cut them back open," he said. He played the rest of his 15-year Hall of Fame career, most notably with the Washington Capitals, never wearing a helmet again. I was the last American to play in the NHL without a helmet.
