Minnesota Hockey Adds
Program For Players
With Hearing Loss
3
Minnesota Hockey is teaming up with the Minnesota Wild
to launch a new hockey program for players in Minnesota
with hearing loss.
The Minnesota Wild Deaf/Hard of Hearing ("HOH") Hockey
program will kick off its inaugural season with a special event
on Sept. 24 at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
Deaf/HOH competitions feature a lighting system that
is used in place of whistles and the games are played with
standard playing rules and have minimal modifications.
Minnesota's Deaf/HOH hockey team will be the first at a
state affiliate level. USA Hockey and the American Hearing
Impaired Hockey Association (AHIHA) have fielded teams in
the Deaflympics since 1991, including gold medals in 1995,
2007 and 2019.
WOMEN'S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Assumption Women's
Program Jumps To
Div. I Status
3
The New England Women's Hockey
Alliance will add an eighth team to its
league when the puck drops on the
2023-24 season with the addition of Assumption University.
The Worcester, Mass., based school announced it will be adding a
Division I women's college hockey program. Assumption participates at
the NCAA Division II level in their other varsity sports, but like fellow con-
ference mates Franklin Pierce, Saint Anselm, St. Michael's, and Stonehill,
will compete at the D-I level in women's hockey since the NCAA combined
D-I and D-II in women's ice hockey for tournament purposes.
Assumption will join other NEWHA teams, including Franklin Pierce
University, Long Island University, Post University, Sacred Heart University,
Saint Anselm College, Saint Michael's College, and Stonehill College.
