Why now? Business benefits In 2023, most companies will need to build new digital businesses to stay economically viable, according to The New Digital Edge by McKinsey 1 . The main drivers is to increase business agility and respond to consumer demand. The pandemic deepened digital usage and created new consumer expectations regarding availability, resiliency, and digital experiences. Consequently, the 2021 McKinsey survey found top economic performers, in various sectors, are planning to accelerate digital adoption as a strategic differentiator. At AWS, we are witnessing these patterns with airports and other travel organizations that are accelerating their journey to the cloud to address shifting customer and business needs. In 2022, airports across the globe are undergoing infrastructure modernization to improve resiliency and security, while reducing operational costs by decreasing infrastructure management needs and eliminating spend on ageing infrastructure. A future-ready agile infrastructure enables airports to accelerate their pace of innovation and digital transformation across the business to transform customer experiences, optimize operations, and increase revenues. For more than 16 years, AWS has supported customers seeking business modernization. AWS has experience helping organizations of all sizes migrate workloads to the cloud and has been named the cloud infrastructure and platform services leader by Gartner for 11 consecutive years 2 . With millions of active customers, AWS helps thousands of customers migrate to the cloud with best practices, tooling, support, training, professional services, and an extensive partner network. You can migrate any workload – applications, websites, databases, storage, physical or virtual servers – and even entire data centers from an on-premises environment, hosting facility, or other public cloud to AWS. Every step along the way, you can leverage AWS's years of experience to build your organizational, operational, and technical capabilities, so that you can gain business benefits faster. AWS also helps companies meet their sustainability objectives as AWS infrastructure is more energy efficient and has a lower carbon footprint compared to enterprise data centers. 1. AWS Direct Connect A major priority for airports is the connectivity to AWS, so many have chosen to implement a direct connection to AWS using AWS Direct Connect. The AWS Direct Connect cloud service is the shortest path to your AWS resources. While in transit, your network traffic remains on the AWS global network and never touches the public internet. This reduces the chance of hitting bottlenecks or unexpected increases in latency. When creating a new connection, you can choose a hosted connection provided by an AWS Direct Connect Delivery Partner, or choose a dedicated connection from AWS – and deploy at over 100 AWS Direct Connect locations globally.
