Operational system modernization Some airports have systems relying on databases running in their data centers. These can be expensive to maintain and difficult to support due to a lack of in-house expertise. AWS offers a range of services to help migrate databases, such as Oracle and SQL Server, from the datacenter to the cloud. Airports are also migrating SAP to take advantage of performance improvements (for example customers have experienced 20x improvement in SAP application performance compared to the on-premises environment). AWS have a partnership with SAP which makes the transition easy for our customers. Most airports who chose to build a new data lake build it in the cloud. There are some early adopters of data lakes who have built it on-premises and have difficulty scaling the solution to take advantage of the growing volume of data available to improve their operations. Moving to the cloud solves this problem and makes available the wide range of data analytics services from AWS. Once airports migrate their databases to AWS and build data-lakes in the cloud, it make sense to move the data integration platform to the cloud. Airport data brokers are moving to the cloud not only to take advantage of speed and scale, but to make it easier for third parties to manage their data interfaces to the airports operational systems and for airports to share data with their partners. Airports in Brazil, Germany, India, Spain, and the UK are migrating SAP to AWS to take advantage of the performance improvements and new © 2022, Amazon Web Services, Inc. or its affiliates. features. AWS offers proven approaches backed by unmatched experience supporting SAP customers in the cloud. Over 5000 SAP customers run on AWS, supported by hundreds of partners worldwide. When airports chose to migrate from SAP to SAP S/4HANA on AWS they usually engage the support of a SAP partner. The migration includes analyzing the existing business processes and identifying areas where the migration could help optimize and streamline business operations. The benefits airport experience include significant performance improvements (especially in peak times) improved system backup and recovery, and better data insights and analysis for staff. Customers also gain from lower costs of SAP on AWS and improved business agility.
