About Pinterest
Pinterest is a social media service that
enables users to save online images,
animated GIFs, and videos to their personal
"pinboards"—and discover new information
by exploring the pinboards of others.
The challenge
Today's consumers may be savvier than
ever, but they still sometimes struggle to
find a specific product online—especially
if all they have to go on is a single image.
Pinterest set out to correct this problem with
Pinterest Lens, a visual search feature in the
Pinterest app.
The AWS solution
When users snap a picture of an item that
catches their interest, Pinterest Lens provides
a wide selection of similar items they can
buy with just a few clicks. Each month,
Pinterest users perform hundreds of millions
of visual searches. The service uses AWS to
automatically scale storage capacity and to
support its machine learning framework.
The results
AWS provides Pinterest with the industry-
leading scalability, data availability, security,
and performance needed to support its ever-
expanding store of images. And AWS makes
it easier for Pinterest developers to build and
run massive machine learning applications as
cost-effectively as possible.
