The Navy's Common Display System is one of the first systems
designed to fully implement multiple independent security levels
on an open architecture platform.
MISSION COMPUTE SOLUTIONS / U.S. NAVY
COMPLEX ONBOARD PROCESSING REQUIREMENTS
Naval Sea System Command needed to upgrade surface fleet combat
display consoles with a rugged common electronics module (CEM) for
the common display system (CDS). However, the project requirements
specified a complex need: the server needed to simultaneously partition,
process, and store adjacent levels of classified information, ensuring
that unclassified, confidential, secret, and top-secret information
always remained separated. Additionally, because approximately 18
new machines within the combat information center (CIC) were creating
additional heat and noise, the CEM server modules needed to be relocated
from the CIC console controllers to other equipment spaces. >
