Higher salaries: The average employee in Hong Kong with advanced digital skills earns 58% more (USD $19,699) annually than similar workers who do not use digital skills. Hungry to learn: 70% of employees in Hong Kong express high interest in pursuing additional digital skills training. Digital skills investment can alleviate widespread business challenges Enhanced innovation: 65% of digitally advanced organizations in Hong Kong introduced new, innovative products in the last two years, compared to 51% of their less digital counterparts. Power of the cloud: Organizations in Hong Kong running most of their business on the cloud boasted innovation rates 35 percentage points higher than organizations that use the cloud for some or none of their business (84% vs. 49%) and were 27 percentage points more likely to experience steady revenue growth (57% vs. 30%). Remote work: 73% of employers in Hong Kong feel their employees need more training in digital skills to work remotely, but just 18% have started investing in additional training for their employees. Talent shortage: 73% of organizations in Hong Kong say digital skills will be very important or extremely important for their business over the next five years. 77% of Hong Kong employers surveyed reported they were seeking to fill openings that require digital skills. Methodology: Gallup surveyed just over 30,000 workers with access to the internet in Hong Kong and 18 other major countries and regions that account for 67% of the total value that jobs requiring advanced digital skills add to the global economy. It also surveyed more than 9,000 hiring managers in these countries and regions. Results for Hong Kong are based on responses from 1,298 workers and 356 employers. Additionally, to assess the skills most needed by today's employers, Gallup analyzed Lightcast (formerly Emsi Burning Glass) data on all advertised job vacancies in 33 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, from June 2021 to May 2022 to further assess demand for digital skills and how much employers are willing to pay for them. 3 Building a Future-Ready Workforce: Greater recognition of certifications can ease hiring challenges: 72% of organizations in Hong Kong report hiring challenges related to roles requiring digital skills, yet 31% maintain bachelor's degree requirements, even for entry-level IT staff. But 69% of employers in Hong Kong agree or strongly agree that a digital certification or training is an acceptable substitute for a university degree. 4
