"With all the little crevices that I find myself getting into, I find some pretty unique things, like an old game program from the 1960s, or an old hockey puck with the logo from the 1980s," he said. A Home for Generations Earlier this year, Baker Rink hosted its cen- tennial celebration with a series of games against Harvard and Dartmouth on January 6-7. A sellout crowd broke attendance records, and faces old and new flocked to the rink to commemorate its history. While Baker Rink may be best known for hosting hockey games, it's also a venue for figure and recreational skating, intra- mural and club hockey teams, curling, broomball and other activities and events. It even holds memories for those who have never skated or watched a hockey game. In the 1940s, Baker Rink housed basketball for a few years after a fire destroyed the team's Dillon Gym. It also served as a barracks for the ROTC lead- ing up to World War II. Through 100 years, Hobey Baker Memorial Rink holds treasured memories that span generations. "It's a special place for a lot of people," Sherman said. "We have some old alumni who still live in town and they come back to all the games or to see the rink. People just really love this place."
