Depending on the size of the capital project, the handover
stage from builder to owner can involve thousands and
thousands of documents: as-built drawings, operations and
maintenance manuals, warranty information, test and inspection
reports, materials and equipment certifications, permits and
approvals, punch lists, contracts and agreements, health and
safety docs, financial and accounting records, and of course
the final inspection reports.
Whether this delivery is via paper or a flash drive or BIM data,
it is most often incomplete, disorganized and of limited use
to the owner. The documents are not stored in a way that
makes sense, and disorganized data is futile for navigation and
utilization.
