Eamon McAdam and Hank Crone led Team Murphy to the 2023 3ICE Championship with heroics during the Patrick Cup Final. First, McAdam denied Brandon Pirri of Team Patrick in the one-round shootout with a pad save. Crone, who also scored Team Murphy's lone goal in regulation, then scored in the shootout to clinch the championship for Team Murphy. It was quite the year for Crone, who was named the 3ICE MVP after tying for the league lead in scoring with 14 goals and 18 points in eight games. The Dallas native led the ECHL in scoring earlier this year with 49 goals and 56 assists and was named the ECHL's Most Valuable Player. McAdam won the Guy Carbonneau 3ICE playoff MVP award as the most outstanding player of the Patrick Cup Final Weekend. Team Murphy was coached by Larry Murphy, a four-time Stanley Cup champion and Hockey Hall of Famer. T he Dallas Stars helped host a youth hockey camp for children of military families living at Fort Cavazos in Texas on Aug. 10. The camp took place on a ball hockey court that was opened two years ago to provide soldiers and their families an opportunity to participate in a sport that may seem somewhat foreign to them. During the clinic, the participants were taught the proper way to hold a hockey stick and after doing a few drills, they were competing against each other in games. "Being able to provide access and opportunity (was important)," Al Montoya, director of community outeach for the Dallas Stars, told the Fort Cavazos Sentinel. "Here in a non-traditional market like Texas being … introduced to another sport, to know there's other options to them other than football and soccer (is important). You don't have to be a professional athlete to enjoy it and sports are for everybody." Brig. Gen. Thomas M. Felty, III Armored Corps deputy commanding general of maneuver, explained to the group that he hoped the camp can inspire them to play hockey wherever life may take them in the future. "I look at this as an opportunity to introduce this awesome sport to all of you," he said. "In a year, you're going to be somewhere else, and you might be up in the north. You might be somewhere where hockey is bigger. Maybe there's a little bit of a spark and then one day you can be a Dallas Star." 3ICE COMMUNITY "You don't have to be a professional athlete to enjoy it and sports are for everybody."
