MAKING A MOVE UP Chris Polvoorde Drives A Mason AWD SCORE Trophy Truck For The SCORE 2024 Season By Dan Sanchez Photos courtesy Polvoorde Motorsports With three top-10 finishes during the 2023 SCORE World Desert Championship season, Chris Polvoorde will now campaign a new Mason AWD SCORE Trophy Truck for the 2024 Season. “I’m excited about this new truck and I hope it will help us move up in the field of fast vehicles in the SCORE Trophy Truck class,” said Polvoorde. Last season, Polvoorde jumped from the SCORE Trophy Truck Spec class during the first three races, then had the opportunity to race with Mike Walser in a SCORE Trophy Truck for the SCORE Baja 1000. It was Polvoorde’s first time in competition, behind the wheel of an AWD SCORE Trophy Truck. The experience left him with some lessons learned that he believes will help him with this new truck. “I wasn’t planning on driving with Mike Walser at the SCORE Baja 1000, but he approached me and I took the opportunity,” said Polvoorde. “It was a good learning experience as the AWD trucks require a very different driving style. Although the truck was set up for Mike, I had to adapt, but it was easy to learn. Overall it was a good way to get feedback in preparation for our truck which was being built. So the experience was helpful.” “For the most part, I had to wrap my head around how to drive more patiently with an AWD truck. In the Spec Trucks, you drive into a turn fast to carry out the momentum so you exit slower. In the AWD truck, you go into it slower and accelerate out. The acceleration out of corners with an AWD truck is insane!” The new truck will still carry Polvoorde’s main sponsors such as Optima Batteries, Ford, Steel-it, and others. “I’m excited to show off the truck,” he said. “It took about a year and a half to build and it features a powerful Kroyer engine in it. I hope it helps us move up in the field of very competitive SCORE Trophy Truck racers this season, but I believe we have what it takes to be in the mix.” Polvoorde will race the truck at the SCORE San Felipe 250 and take his time learning and working any bugs out of the truck. “The 2024 season will be a learning one,” he said. “But we will be able to carry more speed and we will perfect what we have and try to be up there with the big boys.” SJ
