On the opposing end of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway
System from Duluth, a new Seaway Visitor Center opened
May 13 in Massena, New York, culminating years of planning
and bipartisan support.
The original visitor center was built shortly after the Seaway
opened in 1959, thus it was aging and needed a facelift of sorts.
Now revitalized for future generations, the federally funded
$7 million facility upgrade features 38 exhibits detailing the
Seaway's history, including the construction of Eisenhower
and Snell Lock in Massena.
"The Seaway Visitor Center story of shipping via the Seaway
into the Great Lakes is honored, celebrated, and commemo-
rated," said Adam Tindall-Schlicht, administrator of the Great
Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.
