How did you first get into
photography?
I got into photography in 2018
as a way to explore my love of
beautiful landscapes, wild-
life, ships and planes. It has
opened up a whole new world
for me and become a way for
me to stay in the moment and
really connect with what is
going on around me.
What draws you to Great
Lakes shipping and the
waterfront for images?
That's where all the action is!
There's nothing better than a
gorgeous sunrise and moody
clouds combined with a ship
under Duluth's Aerial Lift
Bridge. I have lived in this
area most of my life, and we
have a family cabin north of
Duluth. I'm drawn to being
on or near the water, and the
power and beauty of Lake
Superior never disappoints.
Is photography your pri-
mary profession? If not,
what is your "day job?"
I consider myself a passion-
ate amateur when it comes to
photography. My "day job" is
working as a customer sup-
port manager at Nuss Truck
and Equipment. I cover most
of northern Minnesota. In
the past I've worked as a band
teacher and a nurse.
How would you describe
your photography work?
I tend to go for a moody and
dramatic effect, both in how
I shoot and edit my images. I
plan the location, but what
happens when I get there is
spontaneous. Suit up, show
up and stay open. Usually, I
know that I got a great shot
as soon as I press the shutter
button, but occasionally I
won't see an image's poten-
tial until I get home and start

the editing process. Either
way, the thrill is amazing!
What other interesting
aspects of your work or life
would you like to share?
I like to stay busy. My other
hobbies include bicycling,
riding motorcycle, spending
time at the cabin and playing
guitar.
