GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN The Four Wheel Classes Have A Tough Time At The SCORE Baja 400 By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo There are a lot of vehicles that start ahead of the first four-wheel class vehicles on the racecourse. Much of the course is different from the time they first started pre-running, so a rough and technical course can become increasingly more difficult to overcome. Many of the racers in these classes were not able to finish, but those who drove a cautious race, preserved their vehicles, and made it to the finish line were happy to finish. One of the biggest battles was in Class 7 between a battle 2023 class champion Dan Chamlee, who went up against the No. 711 team of Rally and Pikes Peak champion Rhys Millen, who teamed up with IMSA Prototype racer Richard Fant. The team drove Millen’s Jackyl race vehicle, which can be easily converted from Buggy to Truck, and took the win. SCORE Lites had one of Oliver Flemate’s cars, the No. 1273 take the class win, while in Class 1/2-1600, Daniel Goodrich took his second class win of the season. Other battles were in Class 5, where Eli Yee continued his winning streak in the No. 500 car. Justin Park continued to put his Ford Ranger on the podium this season, taking the Class 7F for the win, while Oliver Flemate’s No. 1100 Bug had a faster time over Eric Solorzano to win in Class 11. As these vehicles now head to the 57th SCORE Baja 1000 in November, many Class Championship titles are on the line, as well as winning a coveted Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Award Presented by Toyota Escondido for finishing every grueling mile of the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship.
