OPENING CEREMONIES AND RACE START By SCORE Journal Staff Photos by Jack Wright nMedia3 The start of the 5th SCORE Baja 400 Presented by VP Racing began on Saturday, September 14, with the SCORE Moto and Quad classes staging at 3:15 am. The early start offered these classes ample lead time before the SCORE Trophy Trucks and the remainder of the four-wheel classes got onto the racecourse at 9:00 am. As the sun rose that morning, the rest of the field for the SCORE Baja 400 lined up along the Boulevard Costero in anticipation of the race start. Before the green flag dropped, SCORE International and the Mexican Government hosted the Opening Ceremonies, where SCORE General Manager Juan Tintos Funke introduced many of the Mexican officials present and thanked the city of Ensenada, Mexico for hosting another SCORE event this year. Also honored during the Opening Ceremonies was the Grand Marshal for the event, veteran Class 5 racer Doug Roberson, who also spoke to the crowd and was given an official SCORE Grand Marshal plaque, presented by SCORE VP Marketing Jim Ryan, SCORE President/Race Director, Jose Grijalva, and SCORE General Manager Juan Tintos Funke. The Mexican Honor Guard presented the flags of the United States and Mexico, during which the national anthems of both countries were played. Afterward, the fans heard the roar of the SCORE Trophy Truck engines starting and then speeding away during the ceremonial start on the Boulevard. SJ
