KATE GRIMES
I was inspired by Palmer's paintings and drawings
of the oak trees in Lullingstone including 'Oak
Trees, Lullingstone Park', 1828, 'Oak Tree and
Beech, Lullingstone Park', 1828 and 'Ancient
Trees, Lullingstone Park', 1828. I visited
Lullingstone Park, which was absolutely amazing,
taking rubbings and photographs of the bark of
some of the oak trees. I then experimented with
different abstract techniques for expressing
the beauty and feelings evoked by a detailed
observation of the bark.
