NICK JOHNSON
Exploring the landscapes of the Darent Valley
reveals a fascinating range of habitats, flora and
fauna. The focus of my work is based on our
appreciation and understanding of our natural
environment especially the rich experience that
these local spaces have to offer. Trees are a record
of time and climate and fallen tree stumps express
the potential of change and growth. Quiet local
woodlands contain inspirational tree shapes and
forms which lie on and in the soil, gripping the
surface of the earth. Seasonal cycles, surrounding
herbage, natural sounds and scents, and ambient
light elevate forms to become presences on a
natural stage.
