Although this tree was photographed during the day
and not at night, as Samuel Palmer might have painted
it, the severe hoar frost in the valley on 11 December
2022 offered a quality of light unusual for early
afternoon. It was certainly transformative. The result
is a colour image drained of colour. 'Darent Valley Tree
