In the shadow of Mount Meeker, Camp St. Malo welcomes visitors from around the world. At its heart are Jim and Sandy Richards, volunteer caretakers with a profound commitment to faith and service. The Richards describe their work as Spirit-led stewardship. "We didn't come there. We were invited to show up there. And by one blessing after another, we ended up being the full-time volunteer caretakers," Jim explained. Sandy calls the camp a "beautiful, peaceful place" where people find solace, especially at the renowned Chapel on the Rock, which invites visitors to "spend a few moments of peace." The couple's routine includes opening the gate, property maintenance and welcoming over 60,000 annual visitors. Every task becomes an opportunity to connect with others, many of whom have profound experiences of God's presence at the iconic property and chapel. Jim and Sandy's service goes far beyond words and actions; it is a ministry of presence, of being available to others in a place that inspires awe and reflection. In recognition of their humble service, Jim and Sandy are honored as this month's Archbishop's Catholic Appeal Disciples of the Month. Congratulations, Jim and Sandy! Guardians of Grace at Camp St. Malo DISCIPLE OF THE MONTH " Our job really is to open the gate, and we show up and let the Holy Spirit do the rest," Jim shared.
