TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
Throughout 2022, the Technical Committee actively developed and enhanced LoRaWAN
®
specifications. This work supports the
LoRa Alliance
®
goal of evolving the standards to simplify LoRaWAN deployments, enable massive scaling and drive adoption.
Five new technical specifications were published in 2022:
• Technical Specification TS006-1.0.0 LoRaWAN
®
Firmware Management Protocol Specification defines a
standard application layer firmware management protocol.
• Technical Specification TS007-1.0.0 LoRaWAN
®
Multi Package Access Protocol defines a standard
application layer method for delivering multiple payloads
for distinct applications in a single LoRaWAN frame.
• Technical Specification TS010-1.0.0 LoRaWAN
®
IPv6
Adaptation Layer for End-Devices Specification v1.0.0
which allows LoRaWAN to seamlessly supports Inter-
net Protocol version 6 (IPv6) end-to-end. By expanding
the breadth of device-to-application solutions with IPv6,
LoRaWAN's addressable IoT market is also broadened to
include Internet Protocol-based standards required in smart
electricity metering and new applications in smart buildings,
industries, logistics, and homes. Press Release
• Technical Specification TS011-1.0.0 LoRaWAN
®
Relay Specification allows for battery-operated, easy-
to-deploy network coverage extensions at a fraction of the
cost of adding additional gateways. This allows LoRaWAN
to achieve excellent coverage in use cases requiring
deep indoor or underground coverage, or relay data
for satellite connected LoRaWAN devices within proximity.
Press Release
• Technical Specification TS013-1.0.0 Application
Payload Codec API Specification is an application
programming interface (API) for application payload
encoder-decoders (codecs). Adopting the new specifica-
tion will allow device manufacturers and application server
providers to reduce deployment complexity significantly.
This will make it far easier and faster to deploy LoRaWAN
®
devices at a massive scale. Press Release
Specification revisions that were published in 2022:
• Technical Specification TS003-2.0.0 Application Layer
Clock Synchronization defines application layer mes-
saging over LoRaWAN
®
to synchronize the real-time clock
of an end-device to the network time with near-second
accuracy.
• Technical Specification TS004-2.0.0 Fragmented Data
Block Transport defines application layer messaging over
LoRaWAN
®
which enables the ability to create and manage
fragmentation transport sessions and to send a fragmented
block of data to one or more end-devices.
• Technical Specification TS005-2.0.0 LoRaWAN
®
Remote Multicast Setup Specification defines an
application layer messaging package over LoRaWAN
which permits to program a multicast distribution window,
along with security credentials, into a group of end-devices,
temporarily enabling Class B or Class C and reverting
them to their original operation.
