CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE
The purpose of the Certification Committee (CC) is to create
confidence in LoRaWAN
®
deployments and ensure devices
operate as expected. LoRaWAN Certification is available to
all LoRa Alliance
®
members and non-member Certification
Affiliates, upon completion of end-device testing with industry
leading test house partners. To begin the certification process,
manufacturers perform initial in-house testing using the
LoRaWAN Certification Test Tool (LCTT), which reduces
the risk issues are found at the test house, thus saving
time and money as a device is readied for certification.
In support of creating
market confidence and
robust certification
processes, two major
certification projects
included: first, standard-
izing the test platform
among Authorized Test
Houses (ATHs) to ensure
consistent testing and
test results; and second,
standardizing LCTT gate-
ways for pre-certification
testing to reduce costs
for members.
The certification program also continuously expands the
features and capabilities of the LCTT. This past year, support
for testing long range – frequency hopping spread spec-
trum (LR-FHSS) data rates was added. LR-FHSS data rates
offer additional deployment options for smart city and smart
metering applications, as well as global satellite coverage.
We also implemented SCHC/IPv6 certification testing with-
in the LCTT to support the expansion of LoRaWAN's market
reach. SCHC/IPv6 over LoRaWAN enables IP-based solutions
commonly found in enterprise and industrial solutions, among
many others, to be transmitted over LoRaWAN and easily
integrated with cloud infrastructures. Now, original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs) who choose to implement SCHC in their
end-devices can have their implementation certified as a part
of the LoRaWAN certification program, a strong advantage for
LoRaWAN over proprietary approaches.
During October's LoRaWAN Live event in San Francisco, USA,
the LoRa Alliance hosted the first pre-certification event for
product designers to test end-devices with the LCTT under
the direction of onsite ATH engineers. During the event, ATH
representatives guided participants on how to use the LCTT,
interpret results, and troubleshoot issues. Attendees left the
event with the skills, knowledge, and confidence that their
devices comply with the LoRaWAN standard and are ready
to be LoRaWAN
Certified
CM
. The
event was attend-
ed by a variety
of OEMs from
around the world
and received
tremendously
positive feedback.

being planned
for 2023.
