LoRaWAN

has become the 'must-have' low power wide area
networking (LPWAN) technology, and the LoRa Alliance
ecosystem has significantly expanded its market presence––
largely due to the LoRaWAN World Expo that we hosted in
Paris last July. As you'll see throughout this report, the Expo
was one of our flagship activities in 2022 that benefited
LoRa Alliance members and the alliance in many ways.
Thanks to the amazing accomplishments of LoRa Alliance
members and the LoRaWAN ecosystem:
• LoRaWAN is now a mature technology
• It is approved by ITU as an open international standard
• We have the largest and most diverse IoT ecosystem –
with stakeholders from the entire value chain participating
• We have the most networks around the world and the only
LPWAN with network options – public, private, satellite,
community, and hybrid
• We have the most deployed solutions and the largest at
scale deployments
• We have the most deployed multi-technology solutions –
with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, 5G, DLMS, OMS, BACnet,
and more
• We have the most certified LPWAN devices with the
greatest choice of device vendors and diversity of devices
on the market
• And, because our members partner and collaborate -
We have the greatest number of end-to-end solutions
making deployments easier for customers
In my keynote at the Expo, I discussed how LoRaWAN has
become an essential technology. Being essential drives the
technology forward and cements LoRaWAN's position as an
entrenched and permanent networking technology. LoRaWAN
is one of the four key wireless communications technologies
joining the ranks of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular. Together,
these complementary technologies address both massive and
critical IoT needs. However, this is just one aspect of
why LoRaWAN is essential.
Over the past few years, the world has faced unprecedented
headwinds: Covid-19, climate change, flooding, fires, droughts,
labor shortages, inflation, supply chain constraints, the list goes
on and on. When considered together, these challenges high-
light what is essential for life, that is to say, what the necessities
are that must be in place to survive so that we can thrive. In
my Expo keynote, I referred to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs,
which describes our essential basic needs as physical well-be-
ing and safety. It is these two foundational levels of needs that
LoRaWAN is serving; monitoring the air we breathe; our food
supplies; the quality and
availability of our water;
our safety, security and
health; and ultimate-
ly driving efficiencies
that promote business
growth and financial
stability. This
is where LoRaWAN
solutions shine –
solving the world's most
pressing challenges
and meeting our most
fundamental needs.
The world's headwinds
are in fact tailwinds
for LoRaWAN tech-
nology. Our members
are unbelievably quick
