PRE AND POST RACE EVENTS Contingency, Tech, And Award Ceremonies At The SCORE Baja 1000 By Dan Sanchez Photos by Get Some Photo With 282 total starters for this year’s 57th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 race, it took two full days for all the competitors to make it through Contingency and Tech. During this portion of pre-race activities, racers lined up the Malecon in Ensenada, Mexico to speak to SCORE hosts Rat Sult and Kevin Johnson at the top of the SCORE ramp. Their interviews of racers and teams were live streamed across SCORE’s website, Facebook page, and YouTube Channel to tens of thousands of viewers during race week. As teams prepared for the 864.3-mile course, SCORE Fans flocked to the Boulevard Costero where they could meet with vehicles and teams, making for a festive and traditional start of celebrating the biggest race of the season. RACE DAY AND AWARDS The start of the 57th BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 began with the motorcycles and quads leaving the starting line at 12:15 am Friday November 15th. This year had a total of 168 moto and quad teams competing in this event, 46 of whom were a record number of Pro Moto Ironman competitors in which only 12 were able to finish the race in the allotted time. Video: Moto Start At 9am, the SCORE Trophy Trucks and the remaining four-wheel competitors left the starting line to tackle the course. Covering the start and the entire race, the SCORE Live Stream had cameras on the ground, in the air, and the team in the SCORE Studio located in El Cajon, California. Hosts Brandon Johnson, Wes Miller, Heidi Steele, and Jerry Zaiden offered commentary and position changes on the course, for viewers. After the race, the Riviera Cultural Center, location for the post-race awards ceremonies, was packed with teams and SCORE fans celebrating the class winners. The custom metal awards were crafted by Lasernut in Norco, California and were given to first, second, and third place finishers in each class. SJ
