57TH SCORE BAJA 1000 GRAND MARSHAL Legendary Champion Scott McMillin By SCORE Journal Staff Scott McMillin is the Grand Marshal for the BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000 because of his long, legendary racing career with 24 all-time class wins, including 16 overall victories in this race. “Racing in Baja has been part of my life for decades. It’s in our blood and part of our family tradition and history,” said McMillin. “I love to see the local kids and families from all over the Baja peninsula smile when we pull up. Many times we are in the most remote locations, and when I see one of our McMillin Racing stickers, I think how proud I am of our race teams and for our family to continue this tradition.” Scott McMillin’s career began as part of the Big Blue M racing team, started by the late family Patriarch Corky McMillin in 1976. It has continued over three generations starting with Corky McMillin and his sons Mark and Scott. Then Mark’s sons, Dan and Luke, and Scott’s son Andy, and daughter Jessica. Over the history of McMillin Racing in SCORE, the family has produced more class wins and overall victories than any other in SCORE history. “SCORE is forever grateful for the McMillin family in SCORE racing, and we are especially honored to have Scott McMillin as our Grand Marshal for this year’s BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000,” stated Jim Ryan, SCORE Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. SCORE Racing Career Stats Over Scott McMillin’s racing career, he has four career class wins in the SCORE Baja 1000, winning in Class 10 in 1981, Class 2 in 1985 with his father Corky McMillin, and SCORE Trophy Truck in 2009 and 2011 with his son Andy McMillin as his second driver. His SCORE Trophy Truck wins were all overall victories. He won the Class 10 SCORE Season point championship in 1981. “I loved racing with my dad (Corky McMillin),” he said. “I loved partnering with my dad, but I didn’t know what it meant until I started doing it with Andy. Then I could feel what my dad was feeling and it was like: wow! I really like it.” In the SCORE Baja 500, Scott McMillin had six class wins, including Class 10 win in 1981, Class 2 in 1983, 1986, and 1994 with his father Corky. He also won in Class 1 in 2005 with his son Andy, and SCORE Trophy Truck in 2010, again with Andy. The wins in 1983, 1986, and 2010 were also overall race victories. Scott McMillin also has three class wins in the SCORE San Felipe 250. While continuing to pre-run and chase for the Big Blue M, Scott McMillin has long since hung up his driver’s suit, but he continues to actively support the family racing team. “To me, Scott is so much like his father Corky. The two of them are both in that special league of extraordinary gentlemen,” said former SCORE owner Sal Fish. “It’s hard to know where to begin with the McMillin family. They have competed virtually from the beginning, and while their many victories could easily place them in anyone’s hall of fame, it was their friendship over the years that I will remember most, as well as their willingness to help out wherever they could in working with all the details of producing a SCORE desert racing in Baja California.” “What is unique about their family is that each one of them has their own individual place in the colorful history of SCORE. With Corky now passed on, Mark, Scott, and Jessica no longer racing, the legend of the Big Blue M continues to grow with Dan, Andy, and Luke still capturing checkered flags.” Scott McMillin Grand Marshal Of The BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE BaJa 1000
