METHOD RACE WHEEL QUALIFIER Chris Polvoorde Takes The Pole Position By Gabriel Garcia, Paul Hanson, and Isaac Flores Photos by Get Some Photo Teaming up with Bryce Menzies in the No. 1 Red Bull Ford Raptor SCORE Trophy Truck, Christopher Polvoorde took the wheel and had the fastest time during the Method Race Wheels qualifier to start first at the BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000. Held at the Nelson Ranch in the Piedras Gordas ejido, the four-mile course started smooth, but later, racers reported it was chopped up and deteriorating. “The course was It was a little scary qualifying another man’s truck, but overall pretty good,” said Polvoorde. “I am thankful to Bryce for allowing me this opportunity and trusting me. It was a little nerve-wracking, and I don’t know if it was our best run, as I made a couple of mistakes on my part. I am very excited. I grew up watching Bryce. And now I’m sitting here and he comes on the radio and says, ‘Nice Job, bud’. It was a pretty surreal moment.” Finishing fastest in the SCORE Trophy Truck Legend class was Ricky Johnson in the Vildosola No. 1L Mason Ford Raptor. During his run, Johnson stopped to help Ryan Arciero in the One Nine Terrible Herbst 19L truck, who got into a G-out, leaving the truck high-centered on a berm. “I felt bad for him, but we’re all brothers, and we help each other out,” said Johnson. “We tried a short-course setup, but it was bottoming out too much, so we went back to race course set up. I feel more comfortable with that.” In the SCORE Trophy Truck Spec class, Justin Davis, driving the No. 285 TSCO-Chevy Green Army truck, took the class pole position, completing the course in five minutes and 31 seconds. This position offered Davis a slight advantage toward securing a second win this season and fighting for the Class Championship.
