"I plan on being there every day, and I know my kids, especially my goalie, are super pumped. It requires a lot of volunteer hours to make this a suc- cessful event, and our community is really stepping up." With an expected attendance of more than 15,000 visitors, the festivities taking place at and around Valleyfair, including out- door hockey games, live concerts and more, are part of an all-day event broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network, to celebrate the game "from peewees to pros." On the ice, Shakopee High School's girls' team faces Brainerd (on January 23), while the boys' squad will battle Maple Grove (on January 25). Mite teams will have the opportunity to play on a smaller 3-on-3 rink inside Valleyfair grounds, while most of Shakopee's travel teams will get to experience the big sheet in the Valleyfair parking lot. To say the players, coaches, families and the entire community are excited for Hockey Day weekend would be an understatement. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing and we recognize the pres- tige you get from being able to participate and be the host," said Simon. "For us, it's an opportunity to show people, who don't know much about Shakopee, what we're all about. We're thrilled that it's at a time when we've got hockey really buzz- ing. We want the kids to be able to absorb what they're going through and truly enjoy it."
