"It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35) DISCIPLE OF THE MONTH What happens when faith and service come together in marriage? Con g r atulations STEPHEN AND JULIA for being the Archbishop's Catholic Appeal "Disciples of the Month." If you know someone else who is courageously spreading the Gospel, please share his or her story with us at give.archden.org/nominate and they may become the next "Disciple of the Month!" For Stephen Kocmoud and Julia Salinas, the answer is a life filled with purpose, joy and community. Whether leading youth ministry or bringing beauty to Mass through music, this dynamic duo follows Christ by meeting others' needs and inspiring those around them to do the same. "We're not perfect, but we do our best to keep Christ at the center," Kocmoud shared. "It's not about us. Our faith compels us to see Christ in everyone we meet." Music ministry has been central to Kocmoud's faith since childhood. At Our Lady of Lourdes in Denver, his music enriches the 10:00 a.m. Mass. "I grew up doing music ministry with my parents," he said. "It's a great way to serve and help make Mass more beautiful." While Salinas isn't musical, her desire to serve led them to middle school youth ministry. "Both of us had done middle school ministry in college, so it was a good fit," she said. Middle schoolers may be unpredictable, but the couple embraces the opportunity. "They wrestle with real things, like how to love their siblings. It seems simple, but it's very real for them," Kocmoud said. Their ministry has deepened their sense of community at Lourdes. "Serving helps the parish feel more like home," Kocmoud shared.
