58 / MARCH.APRIL.2025 USICERINKS.COM REAL PROGRAMS Ice Bocce PHOTOS: CRAIG PETERSEN The Arrowhead PE department's modified rules for ice bocce are very similar to regular bocce: 1 Teams will consist of 2 to 4 players with a total of four discs per team used. 2 Discs and the Jack will be slid/thrown underhand. 3 Do not lean on the discs or slide them aggressively. 4 Do not drop or loft the discs. Discs should slide smoothly on the ice. 5 When sliding the disc or throwing the jack, the player needs to have one foot in the faceoff dot. 6 The jack needs to be thrown past an imaginary halfway line. 7 Whichever player throws the jack will slide their disc first. 8 If a disc ends up on its side, the disc will be set "upright" before the next throw. 9 Only the team that has the closest disc will score points. 10 For every disc that is closest to the jack, that team will score 1 point per disc. 11 If a disc is touching the jack, 2 points will be awarded (KISSER). 12 Whichever team scores points, the other team will throw the jack for the next frame. 13 Games will be played for 10 minutes (A team that has 0 points after 10 minutes is known as a SKUNK). 14 Teams will rotate opponents. k Since there is no skating involved, all kids can enjoy ice bocce regardless of athletic ability.
