anta's Village in East Dundee, Illinois, has been a longstanding family-friendly dest i- nation. The holiday- themed amusement park and zoo—affectionately known as an "AZoosment Park"—has provided a variety of entertainment less than an hour from Chicago since 1959. Now, after 20 years, skating activities have returned to Santa's Village with the reopening of Polar Dome Ice Rink this past January. "Everyone has a story to tell," said Mike Tompkins, rink manager at the Polar Dome. "They tell us about when their grandchildren played, or their chil- dren played. Every single day, there's a new story. It's just so historic." The single-sheet, 40,000-square-foot facility was intentional in preserving its rich history—which spanned from 1963 until its closure in 2006—while also upgrading the experience for today's skaters.
