Some of the common hazards that can be found at camps, regardless of size include: COMMON CAMP HAZARDS 1. Heat/Sun Exposure 2. Biological Hazards 3. Kitchen Related Hazards 4. Struck by Vehicles or Other Mobile Equipment 5. Ergonomics/MSD Hazards 6. Violence and Harassment/Psychological Safety 7. Slips, Trips and Falls 8. Equipment Hazards 9. Chemical Hazards 10. Working in a Remote Area/Emergency Planning WSPS offers a range of free resources to help camps reduce the risk these hazards pose and promote a safer work environment. Recommendations and Solutions 1. Heat/Sun Exposure Working indoors or outdoors in hot and humid environments (such as a kitchen or outside leading sporting activities) can result in an increase in body temperature. If there is too great a rise in internal body temperature, a worker is at risk of developing illnesses ranging from rashes, cramps and fatigue, to collapse and possibly death. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation can contribute to sun burns and sun stroke.
