TIRE CHANGER EQUIPMENT SAFETY TIPS
Be Prepared Work Safe Finish Right
3 Understand the information in
the operator's manual
3 Remove gloves, loose clothing,
jewelry or necklaces, and
confine long hair
3 Inspect the machine for
defects:
– Missing guards
– Damaged controls
– Unstable surface
– Visible electrical and
pnumatic air connection
damage
3 Ensure machine controls and
decals are legible and in good
condition
3 Guarding is in place and
secured
3 Work area is cleared of
obstructions and debris
3 Know the safety procedures
for any additional equipment
used with the tire changer
(example: lift assists)
3 Keep hands are clear of the
tire and rim during operation
3 Never stand within the
trajectory of the tire, rim, or
wheel components during the
inflation process
3 Keep area clear of bystanders
3 Do not inflate tires
beyond manufacturer's
recommendation
3 Match the correct rim to the
correct tire
3 Completely deflate tires
before adjusting the tire, rim,
or wheel components
3 Use the proper tool for the
type of rim or wheel
3 Do not correct the seating
of side and lock rings by
hammering, striking, or forcing
the components while the tire
is pressurized
3 Consider using a tire lift assist
devices or assistance from
another worker when handling
heavy tires and rims
3 Use a lockout procedure for
cleaning and maintaining
equipment
3 Clean the floor and work area
around the machine regularly
3 Clean and put away PPE
3 Wash hands and face regularly
3 Ensure all warning signs
are readable
3 Machine controls are legible
and in good condition
3 Dispose of any bent,
corroded, broken, or cracked
rim, wheel, or rim or wheel
component
3 Report any problems
with the equipment or to
your supervisor
