SUCCESS: MASTERING SETUP, STERILIZATION, AND SPACE
OPTIMIZATION
Post Oak Room
Speaker: Elizabeth Hinton
This lecture provides a comprehensive overview of essential practices for equine technicians focusing
on instrument handling, surgical setup, and sterilization techniques. Attendees will learn proper methods for wrapping
and unwrapping instrument packs, opening single peel-packed instruments, and handling drapes. The session includes
demonstrations on preparing operating rooms and surgical spaces for both major and minor procedures, tailored to
settings like private practices and larger hospitals. Training videos will illustrate minor procedures, such as standing
sedated laceration repairs, and strategies for utilizing dedicated operating rooms or moderate surgical spaces.
Additionally, common sterilization processes will be discussed, equipping attendees with the knowledge and skills needed
for aseptic effectiveness.
