#120 PHYSICAL, LAMENESS, AND PRE-PURCHASE EXAMINATIONS PART 2 Limestone Room Speakers: William Moyer, DVM, ACVSMR; Sam Crosby, DVM; Harry Werner, VMD PART 2: The art of "hands on" physical exams conducted during both lameness and pre-purchase exams has been in decline in recent years. Technological viewing modalities and computerized lameness aids have been substituted instead of a thorough physical exam. These technologies have added tremendous value to equine practice but are very expensive to the practitioner as well as the client and they are unable to diagnose the source of pain. In this day and age litigation is becoming more commonplace and involves increasing amounts of money in respect to lawsuits over pre-purchase exams. The authors (Dr. Moyer, Dr. Werner, and Dr. Crosby) have a combined 137 years experience in equine lameness exams, and in this presentation, will show the value of a thorough physical exam as well as keeping meticulous records in avoiding litigation.
