2025 USE CASE Precision Soil Monitoring with LoRaWAN ® - Introducing AgroSense Soil Moisture Sensor BACKGROUND In modern agriculture and environmental research, timely and continuous soil data is crucial. However, many regions face challenges such as: l Harsh outdoor environments l Limited access to power or internet l High deployment and maintenance costs with wired systems l Customers demand a scalable, low-maintenance, and precise soil monitoring system compatible with public LoRaWAN networks. SITUATION End-users such as farmers, researchers, and city planners want accurate, real-time soil moisture data to improve crop yield, optimize irrigation, conserve water, and monitor environmental conditions in remote or distributed areas. ISSUE Traditional soil monitoring systems rely on wired connections and local infrastructure, which are costly, complex to deploy, and unsuitable for remote or large-scale applications. Data reporting may be delayed or inaccurate, making real-time decision-making difficult. SOLUTION Makerfabs developed the AgroSense Soil Moisture Sensor utilizing LoRaWAN — a wireless, battery-powered device equipped with a high-accuracy capacitive sensor and 12-bit ADC (1/4096 resolution). • Reports soil moisture hourly to the cloud via LoRaWAN • Works across global LoRaWAN bands • Runs on 2 × AAA batteries, enabling easy installation • Is IP68-rated for reliable outdoor use • Seamlessly integrates with The Things Network and other LoRaWAN gateways Agriculture Worldwide Product COMPANY CONTACT INFO: Makerfabs sales@agrosense.cc
