Transforming Lives. Charity WORKS WORKS Bienvenidos, Centro! A Vital Community Ministry Joins Catholic Charities Centro San Juan Diego, a beloved ministry of the Archdiocese of Denver since 2003, has officially become part of Catholic Charities. This joyful integration will strengthen and expand Centro's life-changing work in education, faith formation and immigrant services—while maintaining its mission, spirit and trusted presence in the community. Founded by then-Archbishop Charles Chaput and then-Auxiliary Bishop José Gomez, Centro was created to serve and empower Colorado's growing Hispanic and Latino Catholic population. Located in Denver's historic Sacred Heart School building at 2830 Lawrence Street, Centro offers classes in English, GED preparation, computer literacy, citizenship and more—often taught by former students who now give back. Centro also provides legal consultations, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) assistance, pastoral formation and leadership training. Through its culturally rooted programs, Centro has helped thousands grow in faith, education and confidence. "Centro has always been about empowering individuals and families through faith and education," said Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila. "This integration strengthens the Church's witness in service to our Hispanic and Latino brothers and sisters." Catholic Charities President and CEO Darren Walsh added, "This is not a change in mission, but an amplification of it." Centro San Juan Diego will continue operating at its current location under the Catholic Charities umbrella, with its dedicated team of staff, volunteers and part-time instructors. Together, we look forward to deepening Centro's impact and legacy of dignity, welcome and hope. Bienvenidos, Centro—welcome home. Centro's Historic Home Centro San Juan Diego is located at 2830 Lawrence Street in Denver's historic RiNo district. The building, originally Sacred Heart School built in 1890, was beautifully restored in 2005 and is listed on the Colorado State Register for its distinctive architecture. More than a building, it's a welcoming hub of culture, faith and community—rooted in tradition and alive with purpose.
