The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) ergonomists
are launching a campaign to raise awareness about hazards related to the handling and
movement of materials in the retail sector. The initiative aims to support compliance with
the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
Focused workplace inspections will take place between June 2025 and March 2026.
Inspectors will concentrate on the following key priorities:
Musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) prevention
Struck-by hazards
Falls from ladders related to manual material storage and retrieval
To support retailers in identifying and addressing these hazards and their unique challenges,
WSPS has developed a range of helpful resources.
