TDR 130 TDR 130 www.turbodieselregister.com www.turbodieselregister.com 5 TAILGATING . . . . Continued LAMPOON TIME Lam · poon: verb. Publicly criticize someone or something by using ridicule, irony or sarcasm. Wow. That word explains my writing style. What is the subject matter that has captured the editor-dude's attention? It was an email announcing "The Cal 2026" from Pirelli. Are you familiar with the annual Pirelli calendar, "The Cal"? Don't be embarrassed, only 3 out of 18 people at the TDR/Geno's Garage knew about it. So, what have you been missing? Here are a few additional comments from the Wikipedia summary. "The Pirelli Calendar, known and trade-marked as "The Cal", is an annual trade calendar which has been published by the Italian tire manufacturing company Pirelli since 1964. The calendar is produced with limited availability (20,000 are printed annually). Copies do not go on sale but are instead given as corporate gifts to celebrities and select Pirelli customers. "In some of the earlier calendars Pirelli tires were featured prominently, though this marketing aspect was later dropped. For the first ten years of the calendar's existence, it included photographs of fully clothed women, but an emphasis on nudity developed during the 1980s. From the mid-2010s the calendar moved away from eroticism, and around this time diversity began to be addressed." So, in its 62 years of existence "The Cal" has evolved. The book, "The Pirelli Calendar" gives you the complete history. Back to the story: Somehow, I was included on the email list where the 2026 calendar announcement was sent out to the public. The email's title page: "Connecting Us to Where We Came From: The Cal 2026." From the title I could tell the writer was far more serious about the project than we are about the TDR's calendar. Let's take just one sentence from the six-page press release to look at the serious nature of the calendar: "I wanted to capture emotions, instincts and states of mind that are central to human life." -Photographer/filmmaker, Solve Sundsbo There were six other pages about the "cutting-edge technology, the connection to where we come from, and working with the model to look beautiful and at home with the element." Got it. We interviewed some of the TDR's calendar contestants for their comments about the TDR calendar. The prevailing thought, "I pulled out my camera/phone and hit the 'photo' button. Cool enough for the contest? I sent it to the TDR folks." That's all, enjoy the TDR "Cal" for 2026! IN THIS ISSUE – IGNORING GUIDELINES/RULES It wasn't too long ago that the editor-dude made a pledge not to discuss lube oil (oops, pages 8-15), ceramic coatings (oops, pages 88-91), or tires (oops, pages 92-99). Obviously, as writers we've overlooked that promise. However, the pages mentioned do add a layer (literally, see the ceramic coatings discussion) to these ever-evolving topics. What else will you find in Issue 130? • Connie Baylor, John Holmes and the editor-dude do thorough reviews of past TDR, diesel-related and industry news. • We look at the GM 6.2-liter engine recall and how it matters to you. • Robert Schwarzli takes us on a travel tip to "Chryslers at Carlisle." Diane Gozzi takes us on a travel trip across the nation's central states (route I-70) and back. • Tracy Martin gives us a look at future internal combustion engine developments. However, in order to look forward, we have to look at current government guidelines. So, the recent EPA proposals are covered by the editor-dude. No, you can't remove your truck's DEF system. • "Generations" correspondence by TDR members gives you tips on "how it's done in the real world." • Our industry news (BITW) section brings you up-to-date on Ram happenings (no BEV for Ram) and battery pickup trucks, now 4.4% of the market. • Joe Donnelly and Stan Gozzi recap their 4,000 and 9,000 mile travel trips (no news is good news). I'm hopeful Issue 130 serves to enlighten and entertain you. Thank you for your support of the TDR. Robert Patton TDR Staff
