PORT LOGBOOK 16 | NORTH STAR PORT | WINTER 2026 T H E AN N UAL D U LU T H S EAWAY P O RT AU T H O R I T Y WAL L CALENDAR SHIPS WORLDWIDE, but once it leaves the United States Postal Service facilities in Minnesota, only the postal carriers know what happens next. Often, it's an efficient delivery, arriving with plenty of time to spare before the new year. But sometimes we hear of calendars taking circuitous routes and rogue journeys. None of those bizarre tales can top what we heard in early January from a self- described "freighter nerd" living north of Lake Huron. A Canadian resident, our friend alerted us that the Port Authority calendar had indeed arrived, but that it was the 2021 calendar featuring Gus Schauer's photo of the Paul R. Tregurtha. Making matters worse, the 2026 calendar featuring Adam Bjornberg 's photo of the John G. Munson had not yet arrived, despite its departure from Minnesota several weeks earlier. Our Ontario friend provided photos of the tube and mailing label. They were indeed from 2021, somehow wandering through the U.S. and Canadian postal systems for an astounding five years prior to delivery. Thank goodness cargo moves more efficiently in ships sailing the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System! Ultimately, while the meandering 2021 calendar remains an unsolved mystery, our story has a happy ending. The 2026 calendar— two of them, in fact—arrived at the same address one day later. So if you're still waiting for your 2026 calendar, take heart. It could be five years late and still show up at your door. And if it arrives fea- turing a ship from five years ago? Well, that's just the postal service adding a little mystery and vintage charm to your wall.
