HILE PERHAPS NOT AS WELL- KNOWN AS THE BROTENS, MICHELETTIS OR POEHLINGS, the Hennen brothers–Hayden and Tyler–have car ved out their own special place as sibling stars in the State of Hockey. Growing up together on the ice in small- town Hallock, Minn. ( population: 829) undoubtedly helped sharpen each other's hockey skills and internal mettle. Spending so much time as teammates created a hockey bond that has strengthened over time and continues to this day at Augustana University, where they are the program's first-ever brother duo. "It's awesome being on the same team again," said younger brother Tyler, a sophomore forward for the Vikings. "Growing up we played together quite a bit. I never really thought I'd get to play with him at the next level after high school, so it's really been fun." HOCKEY IN HALLOCK The Hennens' hockey journey started in Hallock, located in the northwest corner of Minnesota, about 20 miles from the Canadian border. They enjoyed the traditional small-town, rural experience: wide- open spaces, a strong sense of community and civic pride, where everybody knows everybody and sticks together through thick and thin. The slower pace of things also meant more time to lace up the skates and play some hockey with friends. The Hennens' coach at Augustana, Garrett Raboin, knows a thing or two about that area of the state, having grown up in Detroit Lakes (population: around 10,000), not far from Fargo.
