Bentley There are always a few schools who catch your eye in these comparisons. On the women's polls, the Wisconsin-Ohio State tandem lived up to their #1-#2 prediction. Penn State, picked #8, overachieved at #3. For the men, Wisconsin, picked 19th, came within a goal of an NCAA title. And, it looks like no one saw Augustana, Dartmouth or Merrimack doing what they did. Speaking of Dartmouth, head coach Reid Cashman, this year's Spencer Penrose Award winner as AHCA/CCM- Men's Division I Coach of the Year, was given a similar honor at the annual New England Hockey Writers Luncheon on April 19, just north of Boston. In his accep- tance remarks, Cashman pointed out that his seniors, who won a school record 23 games this year, only won five as freshmen. There might be a lot of green in the room on April 29 when Cashman receives his AHCA award, just a few minutes after his associate coach, Jason Tapp, picks up his Terry Flanagan Award for his career as an assistant coach. One other note from that New England event. The last award presented each year is the Parker-York Award, given to someone for unique contributions to hockey in New England. This year, Jack Parker was on hand to present the award to Jack Arena, who coached Amherst College men for 41 seasons. Only New Englanders of a certain age understood Parker when he said, "You know, I alwyas thought Jack Arena was a cool name for a hockey coach. And I always wished he had named one of his daughters Lynn." Before the arrival of Bobby Orr led to an expolosion of public and private rinks in the Greater Boston area in the late 1960s, there were only two rinks that weren't prep school or college rinks: the Skating Club of Boston and Lynn Arena. Middlebury College women's assis- tant coach Emily McNamara, a former AHCA/CCM Coach of the Year while head coach at Hamilton College, was involved in a serious car accident on March 20. A gofundme page has been set up to assist Coach McNamara.
