Ensure the self-adjusting guard is working properly prior to use. Use push blocks to keep hands away from the blade while moving the workpiece. Long hair, loose clothing and/or jewelry can be drawn into the machine. Secure the drive cover/guard with a tool- tight fastener to prevent access. Wear proper apparel – remove loose clothing / jewelry and secure long hair before use. Sec. 25 (1)(a),(b),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(h) OHSA Sec. 83, Reg. 851 C The workpiece can kickback and be thrown towards the operator at high speed. This can be caused by wood binding at the blade, warped wood, or incorrect feeding of the workpiece. Ensure a riving knife/splitter is in place and the anti-kickback mechanism is present and functions properly. Maintain control over the workpiece while moving it through the blade. Ensure workpieces are dry and free of knots, nails or staples. Sec. 25 (1)(a),(b),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(a),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(h) D Debris from the cutting can be thrown towards the operator. Damage to the blade can also cause debris to be thrown from the machine. Use protective eyewear and or face shield. Follow machine and tool maintenance recommendations from the manufacturer. Check for nails, staples, knots, or other defects in the workpiece before cutting. Ensure the machine is secured to the floor to prevent tipping. Portable saws should have a proper stand or mobile base set on a level surface.
