2026 SCORE BAJA 500 GRAND MARSHAL Steve Hengeveld By SCORE Journal Staff SCORE motorcycle racing champion Steve Hengeveld was chosen as the Grand Marshal for the BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 500. Hengeveld’s legendary status as a moto racer, spans more than three decades with 20 overall wins and more than 30 total class wins in the SCORE San Felipe 250, SCORE Baja 500, and the SCORE Baja 1000. Some of these include seven SCORE Season Class Point Championships in his motorcycle career, (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2014). “Steve Hengeveld is one of the greatest motorcycle racers in the history of the SCORE World Desert Championship and we are very pleased to be able to honor him as the Grand Marshal for this year’s BFGoodrich Tires 58th SCORE Baja 500,” said Jim Ryan, SCORE Vice-President of Marketing and Sales. “Steve has shown in his illustrious career that he is an all-star, both on and off his motorcycle. Over his 30-plus years of racing, we didn’t see him too much at the start line or the finish line because he was so valuable to his various teams as the ‘Knight Rider’, covering his race course sections in the dark. We are happy he will be in the light with us this year at the SCORE Baja 500.” “I never saw much daylight in all my SCORE Baja motorcycle races so it will be fun to hang out some at the start line and the finish line,” said Hengeveld. “Truly, my life has been so blessed to be able to make a living at doing what I love to do—racing on a motorcycle. I have been fortunate to be on same great teams, especially for a decade with Johnny Campbell Racing.” “But I’m not finished yet. I think a I have at least 20 good years left in me. Now it will be inside a race-vehicle instead of on one. My body has thanked me over and over again since I stopped racing on a motorcycle. But I’ll still go ride on one with anyone who wants to enjoy the spectacular beauty and wonderful people of the Baja California Peninsula.” Aside racing with Johnny Campbell, Hengeveld’s career includes racing with other legendary riders, including Jonah Street, Robby Bell, and Ricky Brabec. While he doesn’t race SCORE in the moto classes, Hengeveld still races in four-wheel classes, spending much of his time with the COPS Racing Team, driving in SCORE Trophy Truck, Trophy Truck Spec, UTVs. At this year’s SCORE Baja 500 Hengeveld is a co-driver with Paul Keller in the No. 150 COPS Racing ESM-Chevy in Class 1. “It’s a real honor [to be Grand Marshal], one that I will cherish long after the final checkered flag,” he said. “I am really looking forward to catching up with many old friends and making many new ones as well at the start/finish line compound. I am bringing lots of pens and plenty of smiles for autographs and photos. And, as an added bonus, I will be racing as well in this very special SCORE race.”
