i n this issue we put the spotlight on the Moto Race community. This category is one of the cornerstones of, not only SCORE International's heritage, but for off-road motorsports in general. From the Ekins Brothers peninsula run in 1966 that set all this in motion, to the Malcolm Smith era, and the factory wars with Honda's JCR team's accomplishments. Then, with Kawasaki's Danny Hammel and Mr. Baja Larry Roeseler's Husqvarna, and KTM's long string of overall race and class wins with Scot Harden and Larry Roeseler, along with Yamaha's victories with Dakar Star, Ricky Brabek and more. There were also many unique wins with Bruce Ogilvie and Larry Roeseler again, taking the top podium spot for none other than Harley Davidson with their short lived "Baja 250" model. See these milestones achievements featured in this issue for more highlights. Looking at today's Moto field is as strong as ever from a racer talent perspective, if not even greater due to the many challenges that now impact this category. The primary challenge for the past few decades has been the safety factor. SCORE has initiated many programs to ensure this area has been continuously upgraded. These include: JIM RYAN PUBLISHER • Moto Exclusive Course design elements to separate portions of the race course to keep the moto racer away for the Four-Wheel classes. • Hydration Stops. • Medical service support vehicles and helicopters manned and outfitted with the proper Life Saving equipment. • Pre Moto-Start course safety sweeps through the city starting location areas. • Mandatory Moto Blue light system on their backs to make it easier for the Four-Wheel vehicles to see the motos in all the dirt, dust, and silt as they are approaching. • Tracking technology now allows racer location and activities to be watched for emergencies. • A "Good Samaritan" rule developed to encourage racers to stop if they see major medical emergencies with other racers and will be credited that time back for their finishing times. Moto Media Exposure is another area that SCORE leads the way in when comparing it to other off-road races that are based in North America. SCORE's Media and Marketing assets supporting the category are numerous and include this issue's special moto focus! The Moto content from SCORE Journal is consistent and sharable for moto teams to provide to their sponsor bases, or for pitching new sponsors. Moto Teams have total access to SCORE content and the ability to use it at any given SCORE Race. All this is archivable and, in fact, integrated into the Racers Tab are on the score website that has a specific homepage produced for every Moto Rider of record since 2017!
