T
he International Maritime Organization
has marked May 18 as an International
Day for Women in Maritime since
2022. This global observance celebrates
women's contributions, promotes their
recruitment and retention in the maritime sector, and
raises awareness of maritime careers for women.
North Star Port magazine is marking the fourth
anniversary of this occasion by showcasing three
women with vastly different maritime careers who
share connections to the Duluth-Superior mari-
time community. Their career paths and personal
choices illustrate the joys and challenges women
face in a sector that remains male-dominated,
but increasingly diversified by the professional
skills and perspectives women bring on board.
