R yder Fetterolf 's dream is to one day represent the United States on the international stage. Fetterolf took a step toward that goal by attending this year's USA Hockey National Goaltending Development Camp at the NSC Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota. "To just be given the opportunity to prove to myself and then also be able to learn so much at the same time, it's really cool," Fetterolf said. An 18-year-old from Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Fetterolf was one of 25 goaltenders (men and women) who attended the camp, which also included a dozen defenders on the women's side. Though some athletes had attended the camp before, this was Fetterolf 's first time. He said he's heard a lot about this particular camp, and now he's gotten to experience it himself, enjoying every minute of it. "It's been a pretty awesome experience," said Fetterolf. "Just being able to compete against guys my age and see goalies who are older than me and be able to learn all these little things from everyone's game, it's been very cool to see that." Fetterolf was among a goalie pool at that camp which also includ- ed four athletes from USA Hockey's National Team Development Program: Luke Carrithers, Nate Chizik, Brady Knowling and Eli Winters. On the women's side, Olympic gold medalist and NCAA cham- pion Ava McNaughton (Wisconsin) attended the camp, along with other collegiate standouts Layla Hemp (Minnesota), Hailey Hansen (Minnesota State) and Annelies Bergmann (Cornell). With some of the best U.S. goaltenders participating at the camp, it provided Fetterolf a great opportunity to match up against those his age or older. He said he wanted to learn as much as possible, get a ton of feedback and enjoy the moment. "This is a pretty awesome experience, and it's not just handed out," Fetterolf said. "It definitely has to be earned."
